Sunday, October 24, 2010, 10 am 12 noon, Temple Emanuel, 51 Grape Street, Denver Introduction to the Jewish Family Tree Initiative Workshop and Mentoring Series
The Jewish Family Tree Initiative Workshop and Mentoring Series enters its third year with a series of seven beginner topics. Participants can attend one or all seven lectures. The fee of $30 includes annual membership in JGSCO. Have you always thought about learning more about family history but didn't know where to begin? This introductory session is for beginners and will provide an overview on what information can realistically be found by doing genealogy research, and then we'll craft an action plan that is unique for you. Learn where to start and what to ask relatives and fellow landsman; what are the Jewish archives and which resources should you pursue; how can you efficiently navigate Internet resources when you don't have a lot of time; what are the techniques to uncover when your family arrived in America, where they came from, what the original family name was, and how you spell it; as well as resolving mysteries about burial locations to find two-generation names on gravestones and more. Each of the subsequent, six monthly sessions will provide stand alone topics for further discovery as well as access to experts from the Jewish Genealogical Society of Colorado who can mentor you on your progress. An added benefit to attending this JFTI session is that the Temple Emanuel Library houses a private collection of genealogical reference books to aid in your search anytime the library is open; these materials circulate for members of the Jewish Genealogical Society of Colorado. Contact info@JGSCO.org for more information.
