HIGH HOLIDAYS AT 92Y

 

ROSH HASHANAH AND YOM KIPPUR – SERVICES FOR ALL

 

92nd Street Y once again offers High Holiday services on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, led by Rabbi Jen Krause and cantorial soloist/musical director Josh Nelson.

 

92Y's services are deeply connected to and respectful of the richness of Jewish tradition, while at the same time responsive to the realities of contemporary life and conscious of laying the groundwork for Jewish life in the future. They include the signature cadences and sounds of the High Holidays that evoke cherished and powerful memories for many people but also include original music to inspire new memories, and familiar songs from unexpected places that can take on different layers of meaning during this time of year. 

 

92Y's High Holiday services are non-denominational, offering people with a wide range of Jewish backgrounds, knowledge, and traditions a variety of ways to connect with this special time on the Jewish calendar. 

 

92Y also offers family services with Karina Zilberman for those who are more comfortable bringing their small children to a child-centered gathering.

 

The Saturday evening service on the second night of Rosh Hashanah combines both adult and family communities for a celebration led by both Rabbi Krause and Karina Zilberman, director of Jewish Family Life and Culture and the popular Shababa programs.

 

Seats are $400 for all holiday services, or $220 for either Rosh Hashanah or Yom Kippur services.

ROSH HASHANAH AND YOM KIPPUR - FAMILY SERVICES

 

High Holiday family services are led by Karina Zilberman, who's Friday and Saturday morning Shababa programs attract hundreds of families throughout the year looking for a way to connect to Jewish tradition. Zilberman, a cantorial soloist, and a guest musician engage families in a warm and welcoming holiday service full of music and storytelling intended to make the spiritual meaning of the holidays come alive for both children and parents. On Saturday and Sunday of Rosh Hashanah, and on the morning of Yom Kippur, the family service begins at 10:00 am; doors open at 9:45 am. Kiddush and cookies will follow Rosh Hashanah services only. Families are also invited into the main (adult) service on Saturday night, the second night of Rosh Hashanah, which will be led by Jen Krause and Karina Zilberman.  Advance registration for services is required; register in person at the Y or by phone: 212.415.5500. Each service: $25. All three services: $62. All Family Services are free for children younger than 1.

Learn everything you need to know to make the High Holidays meaningful and memorable for your entire family. Special emphasis on how to engage your children in the celebration of the holidays, including Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah.

Shababa at 92Y | 92Y SHABABA FRIDAYS WITH KARINA AND COCO

Join this celebration for families with small children every Friday morning. Cantorial soloist and educator Karina Zilberman and her puppet pal Coco welcome Shabbat in a playful, interactive and dynamic experience for all ages. Enjoy a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and bond with your toddler and the Shababa community in embracing the festive feeling of Shabbat.

92Y offers a free Shabbat celebratory experience for the whole family every Saturday, with instruments, arts and crafts, puppets and movement. Join Karina Zilberman and her puppet pal Coco for a multigenerational, interactive and dynamic Shabbat experience. Bring your family to meet ours!

ISRAELINESS^™: ISRAELI FAMILY PROGRAMS

Israeliness^™ is an Israeli-style, bi-weekly program for families with young children, focusing on Israeli culture and conducted entirely in Hebrew. Moms, dads and kids up to age eight are fully immersed in Hebrew language and contemporary Israeli culture while enjoying a range of activities, including music, storytelling, arts and crafts, Jewish and Israeli holiday celebrations, special events, 92Y's GymMaze and more!

Expand and deepen your child's Jewish experience in a special hour devoted to five- to eight-year-olds, engaging these older children through creative and traditional approaches. Their younger siblings are welcome at 10:30 am for the Shabbat morning program.

Award-winning investigative journalist Eliza Griswold discusses her seven-year journey along the 9000-mile corridor where Islam and Christianity collide. Along this line, running through Nigeria, the Sudan, Somalia, Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, she found conflicts over religion intertwined with struggles over nationhood and natural resources.  Griswold is the author of The Tenth Parallel: Dispatches from the Fault Line Between Christianity and Islam. AMERICA & ISRAEL: THE IDEA OF DIVINE ELECTION

For America, it was manifest destiny.  For Israel, it is a sense of having been "chosen." How have the collision of geography and the divine shaped American and Israeli history? What challenges do these concepts present? What divergent interpretations have they occasioned, and to what end? Jeffrey Goldberg is a staff writer for The Atlantic and the author of Prisoners: A Muslim and Jew Across the Middle East Divide. Alana Newhouse is the editor-in-chief of Tablet.

 

This is the first of a two-part series, Chosen: America, Israel and the Explosive Idea that Shapes Both Nations, moderated by Columbia University professor and author Todd Gitlin (The Sixties: Years of Hope, Days of Rage) and Tablet editor and author Liel Leibovitz (Aliya).
